Announcement! A new year with new plans!!
The beauty of the CASA program is that it is the citizens who live and work in the Baltimore community, through their volunteerism, that have an impact on changing the lives of the youth in foster care, ensuring needs are addressed through appropriate services and that the children live in safe, permanent homes or are prepared for living independently.
Functioning under program standards of the National CASA Association, CASA of Baltimore is required to provide one volunteer for each child (or sibling group) and one supervisor for every 30 volunteers. Therefore, the number of Supervisors CASA of Baltimore’s budget can support determines the number of children it can serve. And the reality is that we can’t increase our budget significantly enough to grow the program. We need to do more with the resources we have.
National CASA has recognized this too! They have developed a new model of supervision and CASA of Baltimore is getting ready to implement the model. The Peer Coordinator Model presents a new opportunity for former or current CASA Volunteers. It provides the opportunity for CASA Volunteers to coach and oversee new CASA Volunteers.
If you are interested in learning more about this model please come to the Peer Coordinator Model Information Session on Thursday, January 10th at 6pm.
